my face is on the front page of newschoolers

First let me apologize to everyone on NS reading this and saying, "why I am reading this if it is on the homepage." But I had to let the rest of the world see the greatness of NewSchoolers. Rom Marcucci of The Red Dawn posted a great article on newschoolers.com along with some photos that really sums up what the jibassic is all about, check it out. Thanks Rom!

Thirtytwo boots signature feature

Once again Thirtytwo has come through big time to outfit parkstaff with the best boots known to man this season. We lifted a print off of the Lashed Boots as inspiration for the 32 signature wallride. Look for the 32 Wall in its usual home at the bottom of the CORE park accessed by the 49ner chairlift.

THE POWER OF RED BULL AND 48 HOURS...

THE POWER OF RED BULL AND 48 HOURS...BOREAL OCT 25TH AND 26TH
blog.thelevitationproject.com

This past weekend Matty Mo, Bode Merrill, Phil Damiankes, Mitch Allen and Nico headed down to Tahoe for the Jibassic Pro and some early season shredding at BOREAL. We drove all night on Friday arriving in Elko,NV around 7 am and we decided to make sure the rest of our trip went smoothly by checking into a Holiday Inn Express.

We only stayed for 2 hours for a nap and Breakfast. It was a good deal and we got the Hunters speacial which included rock hard biscuits and gravy, artificial eggs with cheese spread in the middle and some uncooked bacon. We ate every last bite and headed back on our way.

With no sleep and a damn near toxic breakfast we made it just in time for Bode to get to work. He had multiple hammers through out the night and even scored a few HUNDOS for some crowd pleasing moves including a BS-RODEO off the pipe and multiple 2-7 combos

Bode had no problem getting the crowd of close to 3 thousand spectators stoked. The crowd was loud and psyched on the moves going down.

One of our homies Andy Brewer was the crowd favorite and walked away with 2 grand and a few extra HUNDOS. All in all the event was good….good set up…stoked crowd and its only Ocotober. Thanks to Boreal and Jon Slaughter for putting together the event. Its always good to hear the voice of Pat the EYE Bridges on the mic….NICE WORK BOREAL!!

Unfortunately Matty Mo and Phil Damianakes were unable to get in to the comp so we opted to stay for another day for the whole crew to shred Boreal. It was a no brainer after seeing the weather forecast for Utah that said something about an October heat wave…..It would of been stupid not to stick around for another day. The set up on the public side was about 1/4 the size of a football field and had around 6 features to play on. The jump was crowded and it seemed like a total snake session getting into it but it was still enough for Phil to get a few kids yelling “did you see that guy”

Here Phil probably threaded through 5 kids to get to the jump along with being chased down by another determined rider and this is not to mention the random kids and articles of clothing in the landing. Needless to say there was a ton of kids and all of them were having a awesome time shredding in October.

Matty Mo was pretty busy grinding steel and gapping the entire flat box. Matty seemed right at home on the stair set up and judging by his warm up day at Boreal he’s going to be having a hell of a season.

Bode worked his way through the crowd to pop off a few moves on the jump too. Even on a micro sized jump he was still able to get pretty rad.

By bombing the whole hill and racing through the crowd of kids Bode and Matty Mo had a good session going across the monster green pipe at the end of the hill.

Phil and Bode had a little bit of a no boarding session right up until ski patrol shut the park down for the day.

The drive home might of been the best part of the trip due to the humor of Phil “I’LL DO IT FOR FREE,CHICKEN!!!!” Damianakes. We made it back to Salt Lake late Sunday night and that was a wrap on a 48 hour mission to Tahoe. Hopefully the next shredding post is from Utah with tons of pow but if we have to we’ll allow Phill to entertain for another road trip.

jpi.4 coverage

Been nerding out behind the laptop and found some awesome coverage of jpi.4. We got front page on Snowboarder Magazine and FUEL TV. Our friend Zak Shelhamer posted some great shots on PortersTahoe.com.

During the event I ran into Robbie Sell. Luckily I had a media pass in my pocket because Robbie got some banger shots and posted them on the homepage for Transworld Snowboarding.

If you were shredding in the jib park, Eric Gourley of the Auburn Journal may have caught you from behind the lens.

JPI.4 wrap-up

The sun has set on Boreal's 4th Annual Jibassic Pro Invitational. Over 3,000 spectators were in attendance strolling though the sponsor village, shredding the public jib area, purchasing last chance discounted season passes and cheering on the pro's as they threw down. Chas Guldemond, Mike Hornbeck and Travis Kennedy are just a few of the elite rider's who competed for a piece of the $6000 purse, airline tickets from Southwest and $100 bills from FUEL TV.

As the sun began to fall behind the mountains, the public made their way over to the Pro Jib area with the skier portion opening the event. Skier Tom Wallisch stood on the top spot of the podium scoring $2,000 and two Southwest Airline tickets. John Strenio spun his way down the staircase to take 2nd and Dylan Curry in 3rd respectively. During a short intermission the park crew groomed the arena for the snowboarder portion of the contest while sponsors were throwing out a ton of swag.

FUEL TV handed out $2,000 in cash to rider's showboating for the crowd as well as hooking up a Tahoe local with a skate deck, while Dakine was handing outwear to a lucky few in the crowd. Moment Skis gave away a pair of skis to the best unsponsored skier throwing down in the event, and Snowbomb was throwing out hats, beanies, and sweatshirts.

At the end of the evening, it was time for the snowboarder's to lay it down and local Tahoe shredder, Andrew Brewer proved that he was the champ of the night taking home $2,000 and a couple of Southwest Airline tickets. Bode Merrill took 2nd while Forrest Baily rounded out the podium in 3rd. Many thanks to our announcers, Pat Bridges, Binky and Shawn Hartell. Red Bull kept the vibe alive with a VIP lounge in the pro jib arena with DJ Matt Connelly spinning beats.

jpi4 update-public jib arena

We've been hard at it since Thursday night making snow. This year we will have an insane amount of snow to work with barring any Sahara Desert heatwave in the next 13 days. Right now the plan is to hold the public jib arena up on the trail, it will still be hiking only and will cost $5...tickets are required..no exceptions. As it sits right now we have more snow up on the run than we have had any of the past 4 seasons for opening day. It's mind blowing how incredible our new snow making system is. Even with it only running at 30-40 percent(because the power compnay still hasn't given us all the power needed to run every gun just yet) it has put out 2 to 3 times as much snow as last years opening effort. With all of this snow we expect to build the public jib arena much the same as we would for opening day, only just not as long because everyone will be hiking. Before we get to carried away brainstorming ideas we'll wait this week to see how much snow melts before we commit anything to paper. Check back mon/tues for an update, by that time we should have a really good idea of what will be setup.

Nothing like how it used to be

Oh the joy of trying to stay awake through your first all nighter of the season! Usually its pretty easy because you're on the hill busting your tail doing gun runs, digging up hoses, moving guns and adjusting snow quality. Well things have changed and I'm sitting here at my desk doing a "new gun run"...it's just not quite the same anymore. Just scope the photos of my computer screen. That is a monitor of every parameter of every snow gun and the pumping station. Every adjustment if it isn't already made automatically by the system is then made here. OK, time to go outside for an old fashion gun run because I've got to wake up!

JPI4 riders list

The confirmations are coming in and the fields are shaping up to the best ever. It's fitting as well as we've upped the ante for the winners this year. Both Southwest Airlines and Fuel TV are stepping up to the plate big time in support of the cash purse. In addition to the $2k cash we are putting up for each winner both ski and snowboard, Southwest is kicking down 4 round trip tickets, 2 each to the winners. Fuel TV is fronting $2k for best tricks in the form of 20 crisp one hundred dollar bills so once again we'll throwing down cash on the spot for the skills that pay the bills!
