Starting in March, the Red Bull Butter Cup West Coast Series is set to descend on the Lake Tahoe region with three stops for Left Coast snowboarders to show off their buttery best. This Pro / Am contest series showcases creativity in technical flatland trickery with points awarded for how much style snowboarders can churn out onto custom-made features known as “butter pads.” Participants will jib, bonk, tap and slide across the pads, trying to impress the judges and earn cash prizes.
The Red Bull Butter Cup West Coast series consists of three stops in the Tahoe region including Boreal Resort on Friday, March 19. Participants are allowed to compete in all three events, and awards will be given at each stop, with an additional cumulative prize being awarded after the final stop.
The event will have both Boys & Girls pro and amateur divisions, and is open to all ages, although contestants 18 years and younger will need to have a parent or guardian present (or provide a signed and notarized waiver prior to the event). Pros will compete for a prize purse of up to $1000 at each stop, with a $3000 prize purse for the cumulative series winners. Amateurs will compete for snowboards, gear, swag and bragging rights.
