The Killington Grand Prix has come to an end and my two week working vaca on the east coast is over. It has been alot of fun working with the Killington park crew to create the slopestyle course. It has been even more fun watching Boreal locals dominate the competition this weekend! TSST(tahoe select snowboard team) pretty much cleaned house. For those that don't know, Boreal is home turf for TSST as they train several days a week in our pipe and park. So it probably didn't hurt at all that I was here to inject a little Boreal flavor into the Killington venue..nothing like traveling to an away game but still having home court advantage! TSST riders Mary Sallah and Allison Carroll took 1st and 2nd in the home away from home slopestyle today! Yesterday in the pipe, Kelly Marren took 6th while on the mens side the one and only Goldie took 1st and Ross Baker just missed the podium in 4th. It was so rad to watch our local riders just kill at such a high level comp on the opposite side of the country. But as fun as it has been working here at Killington, which by the way is a PWDR resort same as Boreal,Bachelor,Park City, I can't wait to get home to good old Boreal and finish out the season. A big huge thanks goes out to the Killington park crew for all their help these last two weeks, especially the park manager Rosey(yeah I have an east coast twin!) and K's head builder Corey...you guys rock. Oh, one other thing..Killington's Burton Stash park is amazing! Without a doubt, best Stash park period!
Killington Slopestyle with a bit of Boreal flavor. dual combo boxes of the start triple option..snow making pipe, down and d/f/d rail 40ft step dow option..40ft table or 55ft step down option..45ft table or 60ft step down boiler tank or rocket box option Killington Park staff lead but Rosey (lefft) and Corey (right)
The yearly environmental report card came out and Boreal was a front runner in the area. Check out the story on TahoeTicker.com.
The Environment Scorecard is released by The Ski Area Citizens' Coalition. The Ski Area Citizens' Coalition works to ensure that ski area management decisions, either by the Forest Service, the ski companies, or local goverments, are responsive to the needs of real environmental protection, local communities, and the skiing public.

First let me apologize to everyone on NS reading this and saying, "why I am reading this if it is on the homepage." But I had to let the rest of the world see the greatness of NewSchoolers. Rom Marcucci of The Red Dawn posted a great article on newschoolers.comalong with some photos that really sums up what the jibassic is all about, check it out. Thanks Rom!
Freeskier has placed a great write-up on the homepage. Here is a little excerpt.
The 4th annual Jibassic Pro Invitational went off this past weekend, bringing in some of the top rail talent in the country as well as some local Tahoe-area ams. Tom Wallisch, Steve Stepp, Mike Hornbeck and LJ Strenio are some of the well-known skiers who were able to make the trek out and compete in the annual rail jam...to read the full story and see more pictures go to freeskier.com.
No pros, no judges, no money on the line, just kids stoked on snow. Now who doesn't like that. Check out the action going down at the public jib park at the 4th annual Jibassic Pro Invitational. Video by Pat Bridges. Thanks Pat! Snowboarder Magazine public jib arena video
Been nerding out behind the laptop and found some awesome coverage of jpi.4. We got front page on Snowboarder Magazineand FUEL TV. Our friend Zak Shelhamer posted some great shots on PortersTahoe.com.
During the event I ran into Robbie Sell. Luckily I had a media pass in my pocket because Robbie got some banger shots and posted them on the homepage for Transworld Snowboarding.
If you were shredding in the jib park, Eric Gourley of the Auburn Journalmay have caught you from behind the lens.
The latest issue of Snowboard Magazine has hit the stands with their list of most progressive parks. Boreal is in some pretty good company on this list! Aspen Bear Mtn BOREAL Loon Mammoth Northstar Park City Breckenridge Summit at Snoqualmie Whistler

The confirmations are coming in and the fields are shaping up to the best ever. It's fitting as well as we've upped the ante for the winners this year. Both Southwest Airlines and Fuel TV are stepping up to the plate big time in support of the cash purse. In addition to the $2k cash we are putting up for each winner both ski and snowboard, Southwest is kicking down 4 round trip tickets, 2 each to the winners. Fuel TV is fronting $2k for best tricks in the form of 20 crisp one hundred dollar bills so once again we'll throwing down cash on the spot for the skills that pay the bills!

Sneak peak at the new feature that will debut at JPI4. It will split down the middle to become two staircases to complement the concrete feature in the 49ner park this winter. One will feature a down single barrel and a very narrow flat down box while the other has a d/f/d single barrel and a very narrow f/d box with and inside banister. One really cool thing about this new staircase is the d/f/d is matched with d/f/d stairs. The old d/f/d staircase did not have matching stairs, rather they were straight and the d/f/d box escalated at the end. That old staircase is being scraped so the two boxes that were on it can be split up in the park this winter. look out for an updated rider list to be posted tomorrow!
For years and years park builders have talked about how to build a better hip faster and easier. Usually a good hip takes tens of man hours shoveling for something that can't ever be groomed again. It just the nature of good steep hip landings that there is no really good way to fix them once they have be riden and mellow hips that a snowcat can groom really aren't all that fun to ride. Well, after all the years of dreaming we are going to do something about this problem...BOREAL IS BUILDING A HIP CUTTER. We got our hands on a used HPGR17 which with a fair amount of fabricration will become the first ever purpose built hip building/grooming machine. This will allow us to consistently build and maintain hip landings anywhere from 45-75 degrees of pitch. Fabrication will take place this fall so look out for a mid winter launch of the BOREAL HIP CUTTER! . .
So far this summer we have been posting all these updates about the new lift and you must be sitting there wondering when are we going to spill the beans on some new park stuff. Well you can't get there from here until we got most of the lift in place so we could start expanding the run to the riders right. The biggest change in the parks for this winter is a result of the new lift going in and the new locations this lets us place two of our park lines and radically change a third(check out my sand castle from the other day). Looking up from the bottom you can see where the new kidz'x park will go on riders right of the Castle Peak Quad. We are so stoked that our littlest park now has a home of it's very own. This will allow us to better focus this park on smaller evolution features without it being in the line of fire from uphill traffic, lazy old pipe riders looking for an easy way down, and in effect being one half of the night park(more on that in a future update!). Kidz'x will have its own gated entry and be spaced out just right for a mellow easy going flow.
Looking down from the start area which is sheltered to up hill traffic by trees. Here you will be able to chill and check out posted information on park safety and how to ride "evolution features" before you drop in. Kidz'x will start off with a jump/jib option, roll into the mini pipe and then continue on with more jump/jib options, maybe a hip or two and some bxcross style features.
Nice to see my cell phone is good for something after all! Just snapped this picture of my computer screen of some of the new box/rail graphics we are working on. Things are going to be techno color onthe hill for sure. Pretty cool we can update the blog via text message now. This just happens to be a screen shot of not so exciting graphic work but this winter these updates will be coming straight from the guys driving the snowcats at night showing off their newest creations. Look for Hollywood, C-murda and Jay-roll to be keeping you guys informed all winter long..straight from the horses mouth and on time!
Here is the new snowmaking pump on the right and one of our two older pumps on the left. This one new pump pumps more water than the two older pumps combined. That means more snow faster to get open, expand terrain and get the superpipe open earlier than ever before!
Here's the new snowmaking pump as it went in yesterday.
All of the towers for the new Castle Peak Quad were lifted into position today!
The new automatic fans were set at the top of the superpipe yesterday. Now that these are permanent we won't have to wait for natural snow like would before to enable us to drive the guns in place with a snowcat. No matter when and where we are making snow we will always have resources to crank these suckers because of the new pump that is going in on Monday. This one ultra high capacity pump has more output than our two existing pumps combined! Don't be surprised if you are driving by Boreal in mid to late October and you see a pile of white growing above the superpipe! These guns and the rest of the system will be run from a computer on my desk...this is getting too easy!!!!!These pictures are courtesy of SMI and give representaion of what the program will look like when installed and running.
Well, the urban conrete creation is done and ready for snow. This thing came out sick even through we had never worked with concrete before....I think Dave and I could moonlight building conrete skate parks!
The first feature of the new Concrete Playground(formerly known as Rail Alley)is now a reality! Not too much to say that can't be better said by a photo..so here are the first sneak peak views.
The new bullwheels just arrived. As you drive by, check out the hill this week and you will see new towers going up, plus all the new fan guns on the hill.
Terrain parks at Boreal (a.k.a. Jibassic Park) have partnered with 686 clothing company. The partnership will focus on collaboration for events, terrain park feature construction, outerwear for park staff, photo shoots, and the presence of various 686 pro riders.
Both School buses have been super duper reinforced. Our friends at Redbull are sending up some graffiti artist to give them a sick makeover. Getting boxes ready for a new coat of paint and some slick new graphics. we should be done with repairs to all the jibs shortly and getting started on building new jibs within 2 weeks.
this ditch is actually pretty exciting if you're our Head Snowmaker Ken two new tower fans on Prospector new light tower above the unload area of Castle Peak Quad
Today we started final assembly of the form work on the hill. We should be finished Monday and ready to pour concrete! Looking up Rail Alley at ...???(we don't actually have a name for this yet!) Side view into the soon to be pyramid Filling the interior form with dirt. About half way done with remesh/rebar work. It will not be long now! Just a little more rebar/remesh work and then the exterior form for the pyramid can go into place and then we can pour the concrete.
In case you missed this issue of Snowboard, I thought I would give you a second chance. You can even download the issue from Snowboard-mag.com by clicking here
Work continues at the top unload area of the new Castle Peak Quad
Final grading isn't too far off.
Looking down at where the top terminal will be set and 4 of the 16 new fan guns that will provide coverage for the new lift.
Hummmmm....could these fans be for the superpipe? In total there will be 25 new fully automatic fans to provide coverage in the mountain core of the Accelerator and Castle Peak Quads including the Beginner areas, Prospector and Race Arena trails as well as the Superpipe, Night Park, Accelerator jump line(??say what??) and Kidz X park.
I was down in Monterey this weekend for the Red Bull Grand Prix Moto races. It was pretty sweet. I hung out andhad a beer with Jason Lee, chatting about how sweet Boreal is. He is a big fan from back in the day.
The guy in the back-right with the flannel on is Jason Lee.
